I wanted to take this time, on this day, to say something to my father.
Dear Dad,
I’m sure I haven’t said this to you enough. Maybe it’s because we’re both men, and I know you don’t come from a family that said it often to each other. I don’t know. What I do know, is how much I love you.
When I talk about you to other people. I talk about you with pride. I tell them how you overcame a lot of your problems, and how resourceful you are. I tell them about your personal achievements, how you followed your own path in life. I tell them how much you love your grand daughter, and how frequent you come to see her. I tell them of your volunteer work, and how often you put yourself in the service of other. I tell them with pride, how you have been an inspiration to me. How I learned from your example that all problems have solutions, and that if I want to change myself, that I can.
I know we don’t always see eye to eye on things, and that’s okay. No one is perfect, no one is without flaw. I love you based on who you are… and who you are includes all the parts of yourself, the good and the bad. I accept them both, because under it all, is the heart of a man who cares.
I love you dad. Thank you for being a part of my life, and your granddaughters. I hope you have a happy fathers day.
